In church when you hear or think of the word “cheat,” you probably tend to think of an adulterous situation. You would be correct; however there are several other ways that people can cheat. You can cheat someone out of money. You can cheat someone out of some type of personal possession. You can steal ideas and pawn them off as your own. Cheating does not stop at the door of the bedroom. We as Christians have to be mindful that cheaters work in all arenas. What makes it easy for other types of cheating to fly under the radar is that we focus so much on adultery that we as Christians forget about the other stuff or excuse it because it is not in the adultery category.
Regardless of the type of cheating that is going on, God hates it all.
Proverbs 11:1 – The Lord hates cheating, but he delights in honesty.
God even tells those that cheat others and then act as if they are so spiritual that they will have greater punishment.
Mark 12:40 – The shamelessly cheat widows out of their property, and then, to cover up the kind of people they really are, they make long prayers in public. Because of this, their punishment will be the greater.
Cheating is cheating. We have to call it what it is. Just like there is no such thing as a “white” lie, there is no such thing as a little cheating. A lie is a lie and cheating is cheating.
Luke 16:10 – Unless you are faithful in small matters, you won’t be faithful in large ones. If you cheat even a little, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.
God Bless you.
