Pride Finds Comfort In False Security

Idea taken from Touchpoints for Leaders: God’s Answers For Your Daily Needs

Obediah 3 – You are proud because you live in a rock fortress and make your home high in the mountains.

To me that verse says that because you live in your own little world, you think no one else can touch you. No one is bigger than you, including God. The false security in it all is that your rock fortress is like sand to God. Nothing can hold Him back. When He is ready for you to experience the fruits of your labor, nothing can impede that process. Our pride can be like a brick wall keeping others out. On the flip side, pride locks you inside that same brick wall. It can suffocate you.

You look in the mirror and tell yourself that you have it all together. You chant the old fairytale saying “Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” Instead of using the light to recognize your faults and make appropriate adjustments, you use it to shine only on your positive attributes. You only want to take a picture from your “good side.” Is there anything wrong with acknowledging your good points? No. The problem is that the light was intended to show you that you are not perfect. It is meant to contrast your imperfectness with God’s Perfectness. It is intended to show you and me how much we really need God.

Pride is like a drug. It dulls your senses and takes you away from reality. You now live in your very own little world – your rock fortress high in the mountains. Only those who feed the monster of your pride are allowed inside.

If you are reading this and saying that this is never you, I ask you to reconsider. We all have pieces of pride in us that if allowed can get out of control.

If you are going to be proud about something, be proud about how much you love God and all that He has done through you. Just remember, whatever it was that you did was only because He allowed it.

Matthew 23:12 – But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

God Bless You.
