In a court of law, a dying man’s last statement made to an authorized party can be used as a credible source. It is called that person’s dying declaration.
Most of us won’t know when we will give our dying declaration because death will come when we least expect it. With that being said, it is crucial that we are always aware of what messages we give to people.
A couple weeks ago the pastor of Christian Chapel Temple of Faith CME Church, Dr. Jerome McNeil collapsed and died in the sanctuary after delivering the last of two sermons that day. I did not know Pastor McNeil, but I work with a member of his church. If the fruit is any indication of the goodness of the tree, Pastor McNeil was a great man. In talking with another co-worker who works very close to the church member of Dr. McNeil, I was blown away by the subject matter of his last sermon. It dealt with being a better person. When I heard that, I immediately thought to myself, what a great message to leave with someone as you go to be with God. I guess you could say he was doing his job in leading the flock as he unknowingly gave his last sermon. For me, I feel like God was adding strength to the message when he took him home when He did.
I pray that God’s message was taken to heart and that the message will live on through the people. God is in total control. His grace and mercies are forever new each day. If Christians strive to be better people every day, just imagine how we could change the world and the perception that non-believers have about Christians and church.
Remember to spread love. You never know when it will be your last opportunity. Make the most of each day.
Luke 6:31
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
God said that if believers forget everything else, but get this right, we will be in good shape.
Lets remember this moment and this man who gave a dying declaration to be a better person. Let's be better people.
God bless you.
