Take Me Out of The Box

As people, we like to fit other people into our own frame work of thinking. We view them by our own personal standards. When someone does not live up to our standards we apply our own level of judgment. We act as judge, jury and executioner. We don’t encourage people to be who God created them to be. We encourage them to be who we feel they should be. The two usually are not the same. What we have just done is placed someone in a box. Whose box have we placed them? We have placed them into our own mental box.
You may ask, what’s wrong with placing people in a mental position of your own understanding.

To name a few reasons:

1. As I stated earlier, you don’t encourage people to pursue their God given purpose, but rather to pursue your expected purpose of them. Your expectations lack the Godly grace that is freely given to all.

2. This kind of thinking fosters fear. When people fear retaliation or ill judgment of making a mistake, they won’t try. They fall into a holding pattern. They become stagnant. There is nothing worse than a stagnant
Christian. Not fulfilling the purposes of God.

3. Probably the worst reason of all is that in your mind you have placed yourself in the position of God to that person. You decide what is right or wrong based on your own standard and not God’s.

My siblings and I have started a blog called Triple BAR, Siblings Speak. We address all types of subject matter and discuss those subjects from the varying perspectives that we each have on that topic. Our first topic dealt with how to re-engage the youth of today to make sure they are prepared to lead tomorrow. My contribution to the conversation was right in line with what I am talking about today. Take them out of box. I noted that by taking them (youth) out of the box, we began to remove the fears of making mistakes. Freeing them up to create and try new and innovative things. We make them out-of-the-box thinkers. Noah in his day was an out-of-the-box thinker. In spite of what people said, He listened to God and preserved the human race.

The next time you get the urge to place someone in your mental box, stop and ask yourself how you would feel if the role was reversed. (Please note, that the role is reversed. Someone is probably viewing you from their own perspective and life view). What would you say to the one who has placed you in their mental box? If it were me, I would boldly tell them to Take Me Out Of The Box. I want to be free to live out God’s purpose. Can you imagine a world where everyone is living out of the box and pursuing their God given gifts and talents? It would be Amazing!

Romans 8:28
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those that love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

God Bless You.
