Fair But Not Equal

Once upon a time I thought God was not only fair in how He loved us, but I also thought He was equal in what He gave to us. I was wrong. I have since come to the realization that although He is the fairest judge in the land, He is not equal towards us in His actions. When I think about my own life, I understand that I have less than some, while at the same time I have more than others.

I think God wants us to learn to love and accept Him right where we are. Whether we are rich, poor, happy or sad, God has us in His heart. The problem that we often run into is that He is not in our hearts like He should be. We get so wrapped up in the stuff He has given to us or withheld from us that we forget about His love for us.

Romans 12:3 - For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

Ecclesiastes 9:11 - The fastest runner doesn't always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn't always win the battle. The wise are often poor, and the skillfull are not necessarily wealthy.

Touchpoints for Leaders summarized Ecclesiastes 9:11 very well by saying the following:
[It says that fairness is not the same as equality.  God doesn't give us all the same circumstances, the same job, the same kind of family, the same environment in which to live.  Since we are all unique individuals, He treats us differently in order to bring each of us to Him.  But He loves us all the same and desires the same Salvation for all of us.]

That statement is very meaningful.  God uses the fact that we are not alike when it comes to personality, character, strength, talent, purpose, etc.  He knows our individual breaking points and will often take us there to get our attention.  It's only when He has our attention that we are able to truly hear His voice.  Because of my personal experiences He might have to take me deeper in pain to get my attention than He might have to take you.

Ephesians 4:7 - But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift.

The next time you see someone who has more of a specific talent than you, choose to look at it from God's perspective.  That person has their portion of talent and is using their portion to the fullest.  Also understand that your portion is the intended portion God meant for you to have.  You too should use it to the best of your ability.  It is only in that moment that you become a responsible steward of God's gift to you.  And it is only at that moment that you free God to give you more.

As a believer you are the son or daughter of the Most High King, which makes you a prince or princess.  Being such entitles you to receive an inheritance from the King, your Father.

1 Chronicles 16:18 - Saying, " To you I will give the land of Canaan,As the portion of your inheritance."

I don't know about you, but I want my inheritance.  So I will take the portion God has given to me and I will use it to the best of my ability.  I hope you will too.
